LIGHT BY DESIGN
27.03.2010

Let's face it, we've all been there:
The wedding morning is off to a great start.  You've carefully positioned the bride in good lighting for gorgeous morning portraits.  You've carefully collected every detail and styled them together to create crisp images of the rings, the flowers, the shoes.  But now that you're headed to the ceremony site you have to deal with that dreaded demon: MID-DAY LIGHTING.  Yes, your perfect couple now face each other and you see harsh shadows, glaring colors, and hot, direct light on a white dress.  IS IT TIME TO PANIC? NO, it's time to pull out your bag of tricks that you picked up at the TripleCord workshop.

Bad lighting is a fact that every serious photographer has to contend with. But there are practical solutions and ways to set yourself up for success both at the moment of capture AND in the post-production phase.  And since we know it's a hot topic (no pun intended, haha), we are dedicating a whole photoshoot at our workshop to victory over bad lighting.  Then the next day, we'll be talking about how to put those images through Photoshop for the best results.

Here is bride Janessa in the most harsh light of the day, noontime!

Here, we've altered our exposure to get a more pastel look.

And finally, we've added a TripleCord Texture to get an even more pastel feel enabling us to give the bride a variety of looks all within just a few minutes.

The ambient light that evening ended up being perfect.  We got some dramatic looks as well as some beautiful pastel soft looks.

Wedding days are sort of a beautiful mess that unravel before your camera, and not being in control of the flow of the day is no excuse for missing out on all that beauty.  We've learned the hard way so you can learn the fast way.  Sign up quickly since space is limited, and conquer your mid-day blues forever.

Hope to see you next month!
Annie
